Volcano Miravalles is a stratovolcano on the edge of a very large caldera, 2,028 m high with six eruption points at its peak. The only reported eruption was a small steam explosion in 1946, although high heat flow remains. Miravalles provides an exceptional opportunity to sample hot spring waters, bubbling mud pots, water pools and fumaroles only found in Las Hornillas. Some of the oldest Pre-Hispanic archeological remains in the country have been found in this area.
